Child Death Overview Panel

The BSCB has established a joint Child Death Overview Panel with the Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children Board, to review all child deaths in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, as set out in Chapter 7 of Working Together 2006. The panel went live on 1st April 2008

Scope

The CDOP will gather and assess data on the deaths of all children and young people from birth (excluding those babies who are stillborn) up to the age of 18 years who are normally resident in Buckinghamshire or Milton Keynes. This will include neonatal deaths, expected and unexpected deaths in infants and in older children. Where a child normally resident in another area dies within Buckinghamshire or Milton Keynes, that death shall be notified to the CDOP in the child’s area of residence. Similarly, when a child normally resident in Buckinghamshire or Milton Keynes dies outside of these areas, the joint Bucks / Milton Keynes CDOP should be notified. In both cases, an agreement should be made as to which CDOP (normally that of the child’s area of residence) will review the child’s death and how they will report to the other.

Notifications

When notifying the CDOP regarding a child death, professionals are asked to complete a notification form, which they can fax through to the BSCB office on the secure fax number - 01296 382383.

General CDOP queries can be sent to cdop@buckscc.gov.uk
