BSCB Annual Conference 2009: 'Think Family - Working with families where there are parental mental health needs' The BSCB Annual Conference was held on 21 October 2009. The focus was on bridging the gap between Adult Mental Health and Children's Services. It was an extremely popular event with 112 delegates attending the day. It was an ideal opportunity to focus on the issues that result in barriers when working across adult and children's services, to the detriment of the families agencies are there to help. Some excellent speakers helped delegates consider both the adult and child perspective, and a scenario played by actors at Activate brought some of these points to life. An update was given on the new multi-agency protocol which is shortly due for completion. The Report and PowerPoint Presentations are available to download and can be seen on the right hand side of the page.
Pre Birth Event - Team Managers and Front Line Staff Following the initial Pre Birth briefing event for senior managers and designated child protection professionals, a second event, tailored specifically for front line staff and team managers, was held on 24th November 2009. Further information regarding this event will be available in the near future.
BSCB e-Safety Conference On 21st September 2009, the BSCB hosted an e-Safety conference at Court Garden House, Marlow. Keynote Speakers, which included Donald Findlater, Director of Research and Development at the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, focused on topics such as the impact of negative behaviour, including text bullying, grooming and accessing harmful websites ( i.e. pro-anorexia ) Feedback from the conference has been very positive. The BSCB is now in the process of establishing a new e-Safety sub committee and multi agency reference group. The remit of the sub committee will include the development of a local e-Safety strategy within Buckinghamshire. 'Managing Allegations Against Staff and Volunteers' Training Event On 24th July 2009, the BSCB ran its third Allegations against Staff training event. The training was open to representatives from both the statutory and voluntary sectors, who have a responsibility for managing allegations against staff. This one day event included afternoon workshops on topics such as thresholds and disciplinary procedures, as well as presentations from Steps Drama Learning Development.
