Annual Conference 2011
BSCB ANNUAL CONFERENCE 11th NOVEMBER 2011
Children Who Harm Others
The BSCB chose this topic in response to several high-profile incidents nationally and a number of cases locally.
After the opening by Donald McPhail and Sue Imbriano, there were 3 keynote presentations;
Marion Corbett and Liz Hughes spoke in detail about the case of the 2 brothers from Edlington, Doncaster who were jailed for the torture of two boys. They described the impact on the practitioners involved and the recommendations following the Serious Case Review.
Dr Rachel Fyson talked of her research into young people with special educational needs (SEN), who had been sexually abused. Her findings indicated that the majority of the perpetrators were also children with SEN and she developed her project into the area of SEN children who abuse others.
Dr Nick Hindley & Charlotte Procter talked about the Child and Adolescent Harmful Behaviour Service (CAHBS); a new provision which has been available in Buckinghamshire since September 2011.
Delegates then had the opportunity to attend 2 of 5 workshops; Bullying in the Modern World, Female Offending, Restorative Justice, Children & Young People Affected by Gang Culture and Intra-familial Abuse.
